This is just something funny and interesting that I happened across on my never-ending search for the end of the internet. If you are a Star Wars fan, such as myself, then this should amuse you if nothing else. For those of you familiar with telnet, open this address towel.blinkenlights.nl and enjoy the show. The IPv6 version has extra scenes and extra color support. So if you want to experience ascii Star Wars to it's fullest you really should get IPv6. www.sixxs.net or another IPv6 tunnel broker may help getting IPv6 to your computer.

For those of you who don't know what i'm talking about, keep reading...

Only Apple, Inc. folks. The computer is gone, long live...the device! The iPhone was unveiled this week leaving jaws dropped all over the place. Are we being told that this sleek, stylish, sexy yet comfortable, convenient, touch-screen, video playing, picture showing iPod phone is also affordable? Is that just one big run-on sentence? Is there a dash in run-on? Hmmm...

I tend to drift. Since this device has so much to offer, it is easier on me to just touch on the main highlights to get you all excited. So here we go..

- It is in fact, an iPod and a phone.
- 3.5" Widescreen View that autosenses when turned.
- Incorporated Coverflow (the pretty way it displays album art)
- Touchscreen for easy naviagtion or music, contacts, etc..
- 2-megapixel camera and a photo management application
- Built-in Google and Yahoo! search

      - Google Maps integration
- iPhone even has widgets (ie weather, stock reports..)
- Multi-touch display and Intelligent Soft Keyboard
- Runs on OSX
- Wireless (Cingular’s EDGE network, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR)
- Remarkably compact Bluetooth headset (not included)
- Proximity and Ambient light sensors
- Probably some stuff I don't know about yet!

I think that gave you a pretty good run down on what this thing can do. Cingular is exclusive with the iPhone as it stands. That might change in the future. Here is a few tech specs for you geeks out there:

Technical Specifications

- Screen size 3.5 inches
- Screen resolution 320 by 480 at 160 ppi
- Input method Multi-touch
- Operating system OS X
- Storage 4GB or 8GB
- GSM Quad-band (MHz: 850, 900, 1800, 1900)
- Wireless data Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) + EDGE + Bluetooth 2.0
- Camera 2.0 megapixels
- Battery Up to 5 hours Talk / Video / Browsing Up to 16 hours Audio playback
- Dimensions 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.46 inches / 115 x 61 x 11.6mm
- Weight 4.8 ounces / 135 grams

For a detailed description of the iPhone head on over to www.apple.com. And you better believe this baby will be sitting next to my 80gb soon.

Recently a friend of mine opened an account on Second Life so that he could set up a virtual office for his real world company. He has remote offices and workers and wanted to create an environment where they could all come together in more of an interactive manner. In the article Anshe Chung discusses how she got started and built her business, as well as offering advice for other budding entrepeneurs interested in becoming virtual world tycoons.
My friend, who is in the mortgage business in the real world, has begun to trade property in the virtual world of Second Life. He has only made a handful of acquisitions and trades but can see the possibilities and has plans to scale up his operations as quickly as possible. We'll let you know how it goes.

The app typically sells for $24.95 but is available today for $0.00. Not a bad deal. Giveaway of the Day is a site developed to help both users and publishers together to the benefit of all. Users get a free app, not a limited or trial version, and publishers get their product reviewed and posted on Giveaway's site for a predetermined amount of time. The publisher stands to get a lot of publicity about their product and themselves as the popularity of the site grows.
      In Giveaway's own words...

The idea behind this initiative is that many sites and publishers offer trial downloads; but only we offer giveaway downloads. What does that mean?

Basically, every day we nominate one software title that will be a Giveaway title of that day. The software will be available for download for 24 hours (or more, if agreed by software publisher) and that software will be absolutely free. That means - not a trial, not a limited version - but a registered and legal version of the software will be free for our visitors*.

The software product will be presented in its full functionality, without any limitations save for those mentioned in Terms and Conditions.

The download link will remain on our web-site for the agreed period of time, together with the review of the software product and the information about other products from the software publisher presenting the giveaway title.

Both reviews and the information on the product line will remain active even when the Giveaway period is over.

The information about Giveaway of the day and the participants of this initiative will be included in our newsletters and distributed among our visitors and subscribers.

We will pay the software publisher for the Giveaway license, and our visitors will only receive those after downloading a special verification program and agreeing to the Terms and Conditions, thus protecting software publishers’ interests and making our initiative beneficial for both clients and publishing companies.

Giveaway has an RSS feed as well so you can stay on top of all the latest offerings.

What if all you had to do was ask? Just go to www.robinhoodfund.com and check it out. Whether it is a heartfelt act to help out a family on Christmas or to take a trip to Vegas with your friends, Robin Hood might just make that a reality. This is unlike other charities in which it does not relay back to an elite board of directors. You decide whose wishes to grant!

Here's how it works. Tell them a story about what money is needed either for you or someone you feel is deserving. For the price of a latte, the Robinhood Fund community might make your wish come true. There are five catagories to choose for your story. The type of request will help you decide which catagory to put your wish under. Your wish will be voted on against other wishes in the same catagory. Every week the Robinhood Fund community votes for the wishes they feel should be granted.

Community members can vote in each of the categories:

Naughty - Not every wish is about saving the world, saving a life, or saving a soul. Be a little selfish. If your wish is about something you just really, really want, make it happen here.

Nice - Muster up your Christmas Spirit and make a selfless wish to help someone out. With a little help from the Robinhood Fund, you will make the world a better place.

Each week, the coffers are emptied and the funds are distributed among the categories. The funds for the weekly amount are divided to each of the five categories equally funding as many wishes as the fund will allow. If donations are made to the fund in general, those too will be distributed equally.

So go help a family or get you a new Wii. It might just happen!

Those crazy kids and their perpendicular recording systems. The iPod drive uses Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) technology to squeeze 80GB onto a mechanism that actually features a 10 percent smaller footprint than first generation 1.8 PMR drives. What that means is more tunes and now movies! iTunes 7, in collaboration with Disney (for now), are now boasting about the ability to download entire movies to your iPod. Of course, you could always do that, but now they are offering the ability to purchase them through iTunes.

The movie list right now is pretty limited and the download times are a little slow. Each movie is roughly 1.4GB. On a cable connection, I was able to grab 'The Incredibles' in about an hour.
The quality of the video is great on a little screen. However Apple mentions that when the movie is played on the big screen, it offers a 640x480 resolution and near-DVD quality. Good enough I guess because if you had HD quality movies on your iPod, there wouldn't be room for anything else.

from apple.com

Now playing in iTunes...

Shop the iTunes Store for hot new releases such as Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, and download them for $12.99 the week they’re released on DVD. Or buy Disney library titles for $9.99 to $14.99. All your favorites are here: The Princess Diaries, The Incredibles, Cinderella, Toy Story, The Rock, The Rookie, and more. Search for movies just as you would for music, and watch a free trailer before you download. Or, if you can’t wait for the next blockbuster to hit shelves, feel free to pre-order upcoming releases. iTunes will let you know the minute they’re ready to download. Can’t wait to start the show? You can even watch your movie as it downloads.

Convenient and expensive. For that price i'll buy the DVD and convert them myself. Thanks anyway iTunes!

Being an Al fan for most of my adolescent life to the present, I have learned a few things. One thing i picked up along the way is don't take life too seriously. Oh, and how to make a twinkie weiner sandwich. Yum! In the past weeks, Al has been out doing a lot of legwork on promoting his new album, "Straight Outta Lynwood". Radio shows, TV spots, and even Myspace. This is his 12th studio album. He came at us with a free download in early June. It was a parody of James Blunt's 'You're Beautiful', aptly named 'You're Pitiful'. Thanks Al! However, the reason it was put up was because Atlantic records denied him permission to add that track to the album. So, up for free download it goes.

Next up, Al announces that the album will go on sale on September 26, 2006. Only a few days away according to my calendar. In mid August, Al released another song on his Myspace entitled (ironically enough), 'Don't Download This Song'. It is a style parody of 'We Are the World'. You rock, AL!
Now, fast forward to September. We have found out that he is doing a Chamillionaire parody called 'White and Nerdy', soon after, it was leaked onto Chamillionaire's Myspace page. Al, being the sport he is went ahead and added it to his Myspace as well. So, three free songs from Al. A very first. Here is the tracklist for those who don't already know it:

1. White and Nerdy ("Ridin" by Chamillionaire)
2. Pancreas
3. Canadian Idiot ("American Idiot" by Green Day)
4. I'll Sue Ya

5. Polkarama:
"Let's Get It Started" by the Black Eyed Peas
"Take Me Out" by Franz Ferdinand
"Beverly Hills" by Weezer
"Speed Of Sound" by Coldplay
"Float On" by Modest Mouse
"Feel Good, Inc." by Gorillaz
"Don't Cha" by the Pussycat Dolls
"Somebody Told Me" by The Killers
"Slither" by Velvet Revolver
"Candy Shop" by 50 Cent
"Drop It Like It's Hot" by Snoop Dogg
"Pon de Replay" by Rihanna
"Gold Digger" by Kanye West

6. Virus Alert
7. Confessions Part III ("Confessions Part II" by Usher)
8. Weasel Stomping Day
9. Close, But No Cigar
10. Do I Creep You Out? ("Do I Make You Proud?" by Taylor Hicks)
11. Trapped in the Drive-Thru ("Trapped in the Closet" by R-Kelly)
12. Don't Download This Song

Very cool. So hit your Best Buys and Wal*Marts or whatever on September 26th and check this out! I know I have left a lot out, but I got tired of typing. Oye!

We have decided to jump on the bandwagon and give you our take on this new addition to the media player market. While there is no confirmed name for the device the consensus seems to be that it will be called Zune, personally I prefer Xpod!

Word is the device (Xpod?!) will have built in wi-fi and a larger screen than Apple's video Ipod. We have also heard that Microsoft plans to let owners replace their iTunes song catalog for free from its own music service. As usual Microsoft will be playing hardball in an attempt to get a foothold in a new market. Will it work? Who knows.
There are no spefic details about the device (such as size, weight, or storage capacity) but I am sure all that information will be leaked in good time. As we find out more we'll let you know.

Ahhh...101A. Just sounds new, doesn't it? And it only has a slightly ridiculous price tag of $979. But with that tag, you get a hefty list of features. But before I hit the pros, there are of course a couple of cons. While researching this 'bare drive', I found out that this drive comes with no software. So how will Nero know what to do with a Blu-Ray Drive? Well, that took me on a trip over to the Nero website. Upon arriving, I get smacked in the face with a pleasing update to Nero 7 which includes Blu-Ray support. I'm happy again.

Another annoyance, and i'm just being nit-picky, is the fact that the default faceplate is beige with no choice of black. I haven't seen someone 'choose' beige as a case color since 2000. Anyway, on to better things...the features. The incredible new BDR-101A allows professionals to test & author high-definition Blu-ray Disc content while providing the ability for high-capacity data storage. The Pioneer BDR-101A drive can read BD-ROM discs, read/write single layer BD-R & BD-RE discs, read DVD-ROM, and read/write most DVD recordable media formats.

Anyone who has seen great HDTV knows that once you start watching TV in HD, you don't want to go back to standard definition programming. I can't, i've tried. Even the DVDs that looked so crisp and clear when they were first introduced in 1996 seem to fade in comparison. Along comes Blu-ray Disc and soon enough you'll be able to get movies and other programs in HD from your local video retailer. Likewise, you'll be able to record HD programming from your cable, satellite or TV antenna to relive the "big game" as many times as you like. And, with a Blu-ray Disc computer drive, you can store up to 50 gigabytes at a time when you back up your data, photos, portable music files and home videos. Here are the specs of the drive:

Cache Size: 8 MB
BD-R Write Speed: 2X
BD-RE Write Speed: 2X
BD Read Speed: 2X
DVD+R Write Speed: 8X
DVD-R Write Speed: 8X
DL-R Write Speed: 2X
DL+R Write Speed: 2.4X
Color: Beige
Interface Type: E-IDE

This drive will be available on July 27th. Powerful and expensive. A poor man's nightmare.
